Our Heritage since 1942
Graham Howard Burroughs, current owner of T.H. Burroughs Family Butchers:
‘T.H. Burroughs Family Butchers Est. 1942 is a third generation Family Butchers.
Thomas Howard Burroughs started business as a Butcher in Swindon at 203 Rodbourne Road, with a saying of “Our aim is to please.”
He employed my father, John Howard Burroughs, and two other gentlemen butchers of that time. He also hired his daughter, Joan, as an office girl, and Gertrude (Gertie), his wife, as the one to keep them all in line!
After many successful years of trading in a small village-like community, my Grandfather decided to close the shop after the Railway works closed.
I am Graham Howard Burroughs and I joined a family butchers business in Old Town Swindon, Keith Berry Butchers, in 1980. Keith decided to shut the Old Town shop and we moved to his father’s shop, B.V. Berry & Son, in the Ellendune Centre, Wroughton.
Several years later, whilst working for Richard Hawes at Jesse Smiths Marlborough, I was approached by the owners of Country Food and Dining to open a shop within their country store at Cobbs Farm Shop, Hungerford.
After my Grandfathers death in March 1982, T.H. Burroughs Family Butchers was resurrected on the 13th October 2008.
After 8 fantastic years, on 22nd January 2017, our time at Cobbs Farm Shop came to end. We decided to head back to our roots in Swindon, where we opened our very own T.H.Burroughs Family Butcher, Delicatessen and Farmshop at the end of January.
Our motto is “ALWAYS A PLEASURE NEVER A CHORE”, and maybe we should include Gramps’ “OUR AIM IS TO PLEASE.”’
